A Cubed Story

Have you ever written a story using Story Cubes? Here is the story I came up with using these cubes. I didn't think about it. I just wrote what first came to my mind.

BUGS CAN BE DEAD

Little Mac SMILED HAPPILY as he cranked his head backward to gaze up at the shining, CRESCENT MOON. All was black in the sky except for this tiny piece of light. Little Mac wondered if his grasshopper would still explode under his MAGNIFYING GLASS with the light of the moon, just as another one of his bugs had when he forced it under the light of the sun. His mother had been horrified. Little Mac remembered her face looking like one of those evil THEATER MASKS that is painted on the side of the Theater Arts building his daddy worked at.

"How dare you!" she had said. Little Mac realized that he did feel a little bad about what he had done and he promised to make it up to his mom. But what could he do for her besides eat all of his peas at dinner? Little Mac hadn't a clue.

Suddenly, a light flashed across the dark sky. It was a SHOOTING STAR! What luck! All he had to do now was make a wish! But what to wish for? And then Mac had an IDEA! He could wish for a HOT-AIR BALLOON to take him up to heaven and ask God to give him back the grasshopper he had so maliciously fried earlier that day. Surely, that couldn't be too much to ask.

So he did it, right there and then. "I wish for a hot-air balloon!" Little Mac shouted in the night. But then, he heard a familiar noise behind him. It was the front door of his house opening, with his mother poking her head around it. "Mac, it is LATE! Come inside!"

"But, I haven't gotten my grasshopper back yet. I need a hot-air balloon first," he stated simply.

Little Mac's mother looked confused and amused all at once. "Oh, I'm sorry honey. But, your cousins are waiting for you inside the TEPEE you made with them today. They have popcorn and chocolate milk."

Little Mac felt his eyes grow extra big. "No way!"

His mother smiled, "Yes, way."

"Well, I better not keep them waiting!" Little Mac exclaimed as he bolted inside. Who cares about bringing a bug back to life when there is chocolate milk!?

THE END

Now it's your turn to try! It's fun!
